Jordan

I teach a home school photography class, and we spent January studying children's portraiture. For our last class we worked in the studio with live models and did some actual children's portraits. So, my students actually took these pictures!
Aren't they cute?

For our previous class we set up the studio. The students set up the backdrop, lights and props. Jordan was the first of three models we had to work with. I'll be posting a few pictures of the others, soon.
And thanks, Jordan! You were great and we all enjoyed working with you!

Brilyn's Hello Baby Slideshow

Brilyn is a beautiful baby girl! Her Mommy and Daddy are super proud and happy and I couldn't be happier for them! What a blessing!
And - I'm sure Brandy will be wanting to announce this little blessing, so I've been working on birth announcements and Brilyn's Hello Baby Slideshow!
I think I like this design - but I think Brandy should choose the pictures! So - this is a temporary announcement. We'll probably be making a few changes, but at least we have a rough draft to get us started!

And here is Brilyn's slideshow. If you'd like to see it at a higher resolution, you can click HERE
and then right click on the slideshow and select FULL SCREEN.

Please continue praying for Madelyn!
For those of you who don't know she fell into an ash bucket beside her family's wood burning stove last week and suffered severe burns. She had surgery to graft skin to the burn sites yesterday and is doing well, but she still needs our prayers.
And for those of you who would like to help the family with the additional expenses they are having due to her medical care and trips to and from the hospital, an account has been set up at Bank First.

Sawyer Cash DeLozier

This precious little boy is Sawyer Cash DeLozier!
The newborn son of Cassy & Brad DeLozier!

And, the much loved baby brother of Isaac!

Isn't this an adorable family?

Here is Sawyer in his baseball uniform! I think it's already been decided that he will play baseball. Or, he will at least be a fan. It appears there is baseball in his future somewhere.

He's a handsome little slugger, isn't he?

And here is Sawyer's Hello Baby slideshow!

How To Comment on a Blog

My blog does not get many comments and I've noticed that other blogs I read don't either. So - I thought that maybe the reason why was because readers simply don't know how to comment!

So.... here is a tutorial!

Look below the post for an area that says something like

POSTED BY PATTY PATTERSON AT 7:00 am 0 Comments

Click your mouse on the 0 Comments
Type your comment in the box provided!

Choose a profile or choose Anonymous and click your mouse on POST COMMENT.

Type the word verification in the box and click POST COMMENT again!

Posting comments is the only way the bloggers whose blogs you read will know which posts you like and which ones you're not so wild about!

Posting comments is also a way of edifying one another!

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

And... when you encourage others, who knows..... you might get an encouraging word in return!

Kathryn

I was recently asked to do a few senior pictures for Kathryn!

Kathryn is a home schooled student and she was in my karate class as a child and more recently in my photography class. Her younger brother, Matthew is now in my photography class, so he came along to help with pictures.

We should also be doing a few more senior pictures of Kathryn in our photography class when we are studying portraiture and senior portraits.

We had a great time!

And I couldn't be more proud of this particular senior! I can only imagine the pride her parents are feeling!

Kathryn is one fine young woman! As fine as they come, actually. She's got a heart of gold and she's committed to following God's plan for her life.

When I think of Kathryn I think of the fruit of the spirit.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galations 5:22 & 23

If I've ever seen a person display them all.... it's Kathryn!

I can't believe she is already a senior!

And I look forward to watching God's plan for her life unfold. I know it's going to be an amazing adventure!

For when I think of Kathryn, I am reminded of the old saying:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.

I can see Kathryn taking this one step further by introducing the man to the bread of life so that he may be fed for eternity!

And the winner is....

Well.... the votes have been counted and the verdict is in!
I allow our panel of voters to send in their top three choices and for each 1st place vote a photo gets 5 points, for each second place vote a photo gets 3 points and for each third place vote a photo gets 1 point.
And the photo of the Holy Bible opened to the Christmas Story got 30 Points!

But.... I am going to have to disqualify it because it is my entry and I'm the teacher, so I am exempt from winning. I am also a professional photographer so I have an unfair advantage over the students.
So.... why did I bother submitting a photo?
The reason is really pretty simple. I was trying to demonstrate something for learning purposes. I snapped the photo rather quickly with my play camera in auto (green box) mode. It's not perfectly focused and it's not perfectly framed. But - it has MEANING! To anyone who celebrates Christ birth at Christmas time this photo says CHRISTMAS much more clearly than the others. It doesn't just draw the viewers eye..... it goes for the HEART as well.
Pictures should do just that. They should draw your eye to the subject.... but they should also have some sort of emotional impact. They should tug at your heart strings and make you feel something.
I hope my little demonstration gets that message across!
So... who REALLY won?
The photo with the next highest number of votes is this one! A Christmas tree shot by Hannah!

Congratulations, Hannah for being our new winner!

Please Pray for Madelyn!

Please pray for Madelyn!
She had an accident today and fell into the wood burning stove that her family uses for heat. She's suffering from 3rd degree burns on her arm.
I don't know all of the details, but I do know that Madelyn is a very special little girl who needs prayer, healing and comfort right now.
Please join me and PRAY!

Grace's Scripture ABC's Book!

When Andrew was little I made him a Scripture ABC Book out of construction paper and put it in a three ring binder. He loved his little book and these were the first verses he memorized.
I recently ran across his old book and decided to make one for Grace. Only it's much prettier! Technology has improved!
For Grace's book I made a template so I can easily change backgrounds, foregrounds and font colors. And - instead of construction paper, I printed it on photo paper and had it bound at Staples. If you are a Staples Reward Card holder the binding is only $1.75.

Here is the front of Grace's Book!

I'm only including the first 9 pages, but you should get the idea!

Aa..... All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

Bb..... Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31

Cc ...... Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Ephesians 6:1

Dd..... Depart from evil, and do good. Psalm 34:14

Ee.... Even a child is known by his doings. Proverbs 20:11

Ff..... Fear not: for I am with thee. Isaiah 43:5

Gg...... God is love. I John 4:8

Hh.... Honor they father and mother. Exodus 20:12

Ii...... If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:14

Grace really seems to be enjoying her book, and she is beginning to say the scriptures along with me as I read. Maybe soon, she'll commit them to memory and they will provide her with a strong spiritual foundation on which to build her life.

And what a life it is!
I feel very blessed to be a part of it!
